How do I know if I need pelvic floor PT?You may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy if you experience symptoms like leaking urine (incontinence), pelvic pain, painful intercourse, prolapse, or feelings of pressure or heaviness in your pelvic area. If you're pregnant or postpartum, a pelvic floor PT can help with core recovery and diastasis recti, as well as C-section or perineal scar healing. Many people also seek pelvic floor therapy for chronic back, SI joint, or hip pain, constipation, or difficulty fully emptying the bladder. Depending on your situation, an internal pelvic floor exam may be warranted to get to the root of your problem. You can learn more about what to expect here. If you’re unsure whether pelvic floor PT is right for you, we offer personalized assessments to identify any pelvic floor dysfunction and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Book a evaluation today to take the next step toward feeling strong and pain-free!

When should I see a pelvic floor PT postpartum? We recommend scheduling a virtual or in-person visit between weeks 2 and 4 to discuss gentle exercises that you may be able to start prior to 6 weeks. We can work on pain management, mobility, rib cage, posture, breathing, core rehab and/or body mechanics while playing, holding and breastfeeding. Once you are cleared at your 6 week follow-up visit with your provider, we can complete an internal pelvic floor assessment to assess prolapse, scar mobility and tension in the pelvic floor.

When should I see a pelvic floor PT during pregnancy? We recommend starting pelvic floor PT as soon as any symptoms develop or as soon as first trimester if you are focusing on prevention. If you are feeling well, we like to see mamas in their second trimester to discuss how to continue exercising during pregnancy with a growing bump, diastasis recti and coning/doming, and pelvic floor awareness. During the third trimester, we like to focus on labor and delivery techniques as well as develop a postpartum plan and how to support your body once baby is here. In addition to one-on-one appointments, we offer a prenatal exercise group in Sioux Falls. Check out our Events page to learn more. When you are ready to book a session, click here!

How can I prepare for my appointment? We will email you a link to fill out your intake paperwork online which can be sent back to us electronically once completed. If you are not able to complete these forms online, please print off the forms that are emailed to you, fill them out, and bring them with you to your appointment. You can also complete the intake paperwork in-person if you prefer. Wait time will be little to none. Hang out in the cozy waiting area and help yourself to a glass of water or warm tea. I will greet you when I am ready to begin your appointment. Dress comfortably in clothes that allow easy movement and access for the therapist to examine your focus areas. For example, if you want to focus on your knee, please wear shorts or loose fitting pants.

Do you take my insurance?I am an out of network, fee-for-service provider. I believe it is in your best interest to pay cash for PT and have no restrictions on the plan of care that we create, what we do during treatment sessions, and the number of visits you may need/want. I am passionate about providing the best possible services to help you get better. I want to be able to provide what you need, not what an insurance company decides is right for you. I also want to spend my time working for you, not doing paperwork and jumping through hoops for insurance companies. For these reasons, I charge a reliable fee with no hidden costs and payment is due at time of service. We do accept HSA/FSA. Unfortunately, because Well Balanced Physical Therapy is an out of network practice, I am not permitted to see clients who carry Medicare insurance per Medicare rules. Upon request, I am happy to provide a bill for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefit reimbursement. Unfortunately, I have no control over and can't guarantee what services they reimburse, if any. You can reach out to your insurance company if you are interested in this to see what would likely be covered with your plan.
